Aden is a former British Colony and Protectorate.

In January of 1963 it became part of the Federation of South Arabia

and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen.

The Post Office was established in Crater in 1839,

a peninsular which formed part of the Shamsan Caldera.

In 1858 the PO became the Aden Cantonment or Aden Camp sub-Post Office.

The volcanic rocks have K-Ar ages of 5 to 6 m.y.

The following stamps were issued in various shades and two watermarks

between 1953 and 1965 when the South Arabia and Yemen stamps replaced them.
