The Apostle Islands (Îles des Apôtres), part of
the Crozet Archipelago.
Located in the southwest Indian Ocean on the Antarctic plate.
There are 16 islands, all aligned along a N70E degree trend.
Volcanic materials consist of coarse breccias, lava flows
and scoriaceous horizons.
The remnants of the downfaulted and eroded volcano rise 289m
above sea-level.
No recorded eruptions or, for that matter, radiometric dates
or sample analyses.
Believed to be about 5.5 million years of age.
