Ascension Island is located in the South Atlantic at 7.95S, 14.37W.

There have been no historically recorded eruptions.

However as the souvenir sheet depicted below indicates, there are numerous cinder cones.

The stamps were issued September 4th, 1978.

Going back in time, the following souvenir sheet is a map of the island

drawn by Linschoten in 1599.

The ss was accompanied by the following four stamps.

The first two being maps by Maxwell in 1793, the 15p by Eckberg & Chapman in 1811, and the 40p by Campbell in 1819.

The stamp immediately below and the two horizontal stamps below it were issued to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Royal Geographical Society. Issued Nov 17th, 1980

The vertical stamp below celebrates Ascension day and is an old map of the Island.

The next four stamps recognize the 160th anniversary of the occupation of the Island by the British.
