Changbaishan, or more correctly Paektusan (Paekdu), is revered by the North Koreans.

Additionally, Kim Jong Il attributes the mountain as his birthplace.

Consequently there have been numerous stamps illustrating the mountain.

However, because of embargoes, these are often not easy to obtain.

This page is therefore still largely "in the making".

The next stamp, issued in 1989 was for the Alpine plant Trollius japonicus, however, I am

pretty sure that it is set against a backdrop of Paektusan.

The next four stamps were issued in 1992 showing various aspects of the mountain,

including (ahem) Kim Jong Il's "log cabin".

The next stamp, is a souvenir sheet issued in 1992 which shows Kim Jong Il in a winter landscape of Paektusan.

The souvenir sheet illustrated below was issued by North Korea in 1994.

It shows a profile of the volcano in the background.

The next three stamps were issued by North Korea in 2000.

Entitled "Scenic spots of Mount Paektu"

The next is non-stamp in a booklet of mushroom stamps issued by North Korea, February 25th 2002.

The next shows the cliffs of the inner caldera wall.

Issued in 2003.

The next panorama of the caldera was issued in 2007.
