The people of South Korea are denied direct access to Changbaishan,

or more correctly Paektusan, through North Korea.

However, the mountain is as revered by the southern Koreans as the northern.

Consequently, South Korean visits to China are often extended to include

a visit to the mountain.

The net result is an extremely active tourist area on the Chinese side of the mountain.
