Cotopaxi stratovolcano, Ecuador
Located less than a degree from the equator, Cotopaxi at 19,393
feet elevation is nethertheless covered with glaciers.
These pose a severe threat during possible future eruptions.
The most recent confirmed eruption was in 1940 with VEI magnitude
2.
A magnitude 4 eruption took place in 1877.
The following stamp was issued as part of a souvenir sheet
by Sierra Leone in 2002.
