St Elias Volcano?, Alaska.
To quote from the Geology of National Parks:
"However, the details of the geology of the St. Elias
Mountains are little known.
Extensive icefields and snowfields cover all but the highest
peaks along the top of the range,
and on the slopes more than 100 glaciers obscure the bedrock
and structures.
Even where exposed in cliffs or on the shore, the volcanic
and clastic rocks are
difficult to correlate because of an absence of fossils and
the extreme deformation
that has occurred."
At over 18,000 feet, St. Elias is the third highest mountain
in North America.
The stamps illustrated below were issued by Russia in
April 1943
to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the death of Vitus Bering
(1681-1741).
Guess they were a bit slow during WW2.
