Since 1989 Japan has been issuing stamps for the Prefectures.
There are 47 of these political subdivisions.
The stamps are valid for use anywhere in Japan.
Needless to say, in addition to being an internationally recognized
symbol of Japan,
the image of Fuji is closely associated with the Prefecture
in which it is located and adjacent Prefectures
(Yamanashi and Shizuoka).
