Hakusan is on the island of Honshu, Japan.
The last recorded eruption was in 1659.
It is a complex andesitic-dacitic stratovolcano.
The volcano is heavily eroded due to high snow fall.
This being because of its height of 8,865 feet.
Holocene eruptions have been phreatic, sometimes accompanied
by debris avalanches.
There are eight craters near the summit of the volcano.
In 1962, the area on and around Mt. Hakusan covering the four
Prefectures
of Fukui, Gifu, Toyama and Ishikawa was designated as Hakusan
National Park.
The stamp below was issued for the Ishikawa Prefecture in
1998.
