Mt. Halla on Cheju Island Korea.

The volcano is recorded as having erupted in 1002 and 1007

The stamp illustrated below was issued May 30th, 1972.

Part of a Korean (S) National Park series.

It depicts the summit crater lake Paengnokdam (Paeknokdam).

Halla is the second highest mountain of both Koreas

(after Baitoushan, shared with China).

In the stamps below Baengnokdam (an alternate spelling) is about 110m in depth (top left).

In a dialect used on the island of Jeju-do, oreum refers to the small parasitic volcanoes situated around the periphery of Mt. Halla-san.

At present, about 368 oreums remain on Halla-san( top tight).

Seonjakjiwat (bottom right).

Seonjakjiwat is an alpine plain that is surrounded by the Witse Oreum (parasitic volcano) on one side

and the Banga Oreum on the other.

In the Jeju-do Island dialect, jakji refers to small rocks, and wat indicates a plain,

which, in combination, signifies "a plain with small rocks."
