Hofsjökull volcano lies along an east-west-trending area
connecting the eastern and western rift zones of Iceland.
The roughly 7 x 11 km caldera of the volcano lies 600 m under
the western part of the Hofsjökull icecap.
A small Holocene shield volcano is located at the SW margin
of the icecap.
Fissure eruptions north and east of the icecap have produced
basaltic lava flows during the Holocene.
The following stamp was issued in 2007.
