Imbabura volcano, Ecuador
Though apparently not having erupted in the last 10,000 years,
Imbabura is regarded as dormant, rather than extinct.
It rises to a height of about 15,000 feet above sea level
and forms a scenic backdrop to Lake San Pablo.
It is a stratovolcano covered with numerous cinder cones and
large volume dacitic domes.
Past activity at the volcano has led to the production of
numerous pyroclastic flows.
Its proximity to the city of Ibarra warrants constant monitoring
of potential activity.
The following stamps were issued by Ecuador September 24th,
1954.
