Jingbo volcanic area in Heilongjiang Province of NE China.

A series of eruptions approximately 5200 to 5500 BC led to the formation of about 10 cinder cones.

A large (about 500 sq ml) lava flow led to damming of the Mudan River and the formation of the Jingbo lake.

The lavas are trachybasalt and basanite in composition.

Subsequent weathering and rapid forest growth have largely hidden the cones.

The following stamps form a panorama and were issued in 1998.
