During the Cretaceous, kimberlite pipes were quite common in southern Africa

These are believed to have been feeders for "maar" type volcanoes

Several kilometers of the upper surface of the Earth have been eroded away since their emplacement.

They are famous for being the source structures for diamonds

The stamp below was issued by Lesotho in 1973

It has become somewhat infamous for the misspelling of "kimerlite"
