Lanin Volcano, Argentina

Lanín volcano is a compound stratocone rising to 12, 293 feet (3,747m).

The youngest three units have been constructed since the Middle-Late Pleistocene.

Compositionally, volcanic rocks from the volcano are mainly basalts/basaltic andesites and dacites with scarce intermediate types.

Postglacial pyroclastic deposits are also silicic and confirm a sharp bimodality of the magmas.

It has no historic eruptions.

An eruption in 560 +/- 150 AD is based on radiocarbon dating.

The following stamp to commemorate Argentina highway 40 was issued August 25th, 2007.
