In 1936 when the revolutionary movement began in Spain, the Spanish Airline, LAPE ceased operating and the Post Office department began negotiations with Deutsche Lufthansa to use their services.

Deutsche Lufthansa had been making stops at Las Palmas since 1934 en route to Chile.
