Mount Lassen, California
The southernmost active volcano in the United States.
Last erupted 30th May 1914 to 29th June 1917.
It was created a National Park on August 9th, 1916
It had a VEI of 3 or was a Vulcanian style eruption,
at its peak on May 22nd, 1915.
It is a 10,457 foot high lava dome.
The volcano was extensively photographed by Benjamin Franklin
Loomis.
A museum in the Park is named after him.
The postcard below shows the climactic 1915 eruption.
It was mailed in 1949 and is obviously a reproduction.
The sharpness of the eruption cloud suggests that the original
negative may have been "enhanced" with a paring knife.
More details on the eruption can be obtained here, at the USGS site.
