Lopevi is a small island in the central part of the Vanuatu
chain.
The volcano is basaltic to andesitic in composition.
Previous eruptions caused the island to be evacuated in 1939
and 1960.
It is now uninhabited.
A new eruption began on June 8th, 2001 causing choking ash
to be deposited on the nearby island of Paama.

that on the right, the central islands.
