Mauritius is a volcanic island to the east of Reunion in the Indian Ocean.

Volcanism began about 10 million years ago and probably ended about 100,000 years ago.

As a consequence it is heavily eroded.

A distinctive feature of that erosion is shown in the stamp below.

Montagnes des Trois Mamelles.
