Merapi (or Marapi) is located on Sumatra.

It has erupted quite frequently in the last 230 years.

Eruptions are usually of VEI 2 or less.

However, these eruptions are frequently glowing avalanches which,

together with a surrounding high population density,

make it one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.

The stamps shown below were overprinted with a surcharge for the National Disaster fund.

The stamps were issued on April 15th, 1954.

More information on the volcano can be obtained Volcano World

I think the following volcano is Merapi, but I'm not sure.

If anyone knows definitively, please email me.

Stamp courtesy of Lisa Heiman

The following stamps issued in 1962 have a cartoon of Merapi in the upper left corner

The next is quite definitely Merapi, issued in 1999

As is the next, issued in 2003
