Moorea Island is part of the Society Islands archipelago.

Also known as Eimeo, Cook landed in 1777.

Wallis landed earlier, calling it Duke of York Island

On the same latitude and approximately 16km west of Tahiti.

The island is extremely eroded.

Though there are several mountains over 500m (1,500 ft)

Ar dates are inconclusive at 1.49 plus/minus 1.44 Ma

Most dates fall in the range 1.36 to 1.72 Ma.

Making it the third youngest of the islands.
