The volcano Liamuiga (formerly Mt. Misery) lies on the island of St. Kitts

It is approximately 10 km wide with a 1km caldera and rises to 3,792 feet above sea level

There is evidence for four Holocene eruptions, 3 of which were plinian in style.

There are unsubstantiated reports of eruptions in 1692 and 1843.

A good radiometric date of 1845 ± 58 b.p. has been obtained for an ash.

There are two lava domes on the west flank and one on the southwest.

Nevis Peak on the island of Nevis has recorded no historic eruptions.

The mountain was misnamed by Columbus who thought it to be covered with snow (neive, sp.)

The stamp below was issued in September of 1988

The next stamps were issued in 1923 to celebrate the Tercentenary of the Colony.

The outline of Mount Misery can be seen to the left of the Caravel.
