Ngurdoto is an extinct volcano in Tanzania.
Described as a miniature Ngorongoro.
The crater is 400 meters deep and 3 kilometers wide.
It is a steep sided bowl containing lush swamps and forest.
Not discovered until the early part of the 20th century.
Comprised of alkali-olivine basalts, nephelinite and phonolite
lavas and volcaniclastics.
Dated as "probably being extinct for a quarter million
years".
The stamp illustrated below was issued in 1993.
