Pacaya is a very active volcano in Guatemala.
Unfortunately, the stamp below does not depict Lake Amatitlan
and the volcano is not Pacaya.
"Described as a view of Lake Amatitlán, but in
Guatemala Filatelica for February-March, 1959, Oswaldo V. Pellecer
points out that in fact
the view is of Lake Atitlán, the volcano being San Pedro. There is
no volcano on the shore of
Amatitlán. The error is repeated on the 50c of 1929, but the lake
(with San Pedro in the
background) is correctly described as Atitlán on the 3c air mail
of 1950."
Many thanks to Eric Dyck for pointing out this error for me.
The next stamps, however, do illustrate the real Lake Amatitlan
which is the caldera of Pacaya.
Printed in photogravure by Johan Enschede and designed by
Carlos Marckwordt.
325,000 of the 2c and 75,000 of the 6c were printed.
Enchede also overpinted in photogravure a dark green quetzal
in flight.
The stamps were placed on sale on October 12th 1935.
Many thanks to Eric Dyck for stamps and information.

The next stamp shows Pacaya in eruption.
An airmail stamp issued July 30th 1991.
The next stamp shows Pacaya in eruption.
Issued 22nd of August 1995
Again thanks to Eric Dyck.
