Raiatea Island forms part of the Society Island chain.
The Society Island chain parallels that of the Hawaiian chain
and has a similar age decrease to the southeast.
The basaltic rocks have been radiometrically dated
at between 2.44 and 2.75 Ma.
The stamp illustrated below was issued in 1979.
It shows the extinct Mount Temahani.
