Rotorua is a caldera that has not erupted in historic times.
The area is marked by geothermal features.
A brief description of the area can be found at this New Zealand Teachers resources
site.
Shown below are two stamps issued by Universal Mail, New Zealand
Ltd.
Both depict the geyser Pohutu
The next "regular" stamp of Pohutu was issued in
1993, litho, perf 12.
The next was issued in 1960 in photo, in decimal in 1967,
multicolored in 1968.

The next pair depict the "White Terrace" at Rotomahana.
Issued 1900, perf 11, double NZ & star watermark.
Left is carmine rose, right is lake.

The design was reissued in 1998 to celebrate its centenary

Both the terraces and lake were unfortunately destroyed in
an 1886 eruption.
However, the lake refilled over the ensuing 7 years, becoming

And the next, from 1998, shows the pink terrace
Next stamp illustrates the Hakereteke Falls at Rotomahana
