Sabalan or Savalan is the second highest mountain in Iran.
It is a (possibly) extinct andesitic stratovolcano.
Its rocks have been dated to 5.61.4 million years.
Karakhanian et al. (2002) state that volcanic activity continued
into the Holocene, less than 10,000 years ago.
The following stamp was issued by Kyrgyzstan in 2008.
