Tarawera Volcano, New Zealand.

Last erupted on the 10th June, 1886 killing 153 people.

Though within a rhyolite complex, the eruption was basaltic in composition.

The eruption destroyed the terraces at Rotorua.

The stamp below, issued in 1993 illustrates the cold "Emerald Pool" occupying one of the craters of the 1886 eruption.
