Zavodovski Island is the northernmost of the South Sandwich
Islands.
It rises to 551m above sea level.
The island is squarish in outline, being 5.5 km NE-SW by 4.9
km NW-SE.
Mount Curry dominates the western part of the island.
There are two parasitic cones, fissures and a low-lying lava
platform to the east of the main cone.
Intense fumarolic activity from the summit crater has been
reported on many occasions since the island's discovery by Bellingshausen
in 1819.
Fresh lava was reported in 1830 and eruptions of basaltic
cinders have probably occured since then.
The lavas are basaltic in composition.
